Week of October 10, 2011:
By now I am sure every photographer in New England is aware that the autumn foliage in the White Mountains of New Hampshire is very spotty this year. The good news is foliage scenes can be found, it just requires the photographer to work a little harder than past years and venture off the everyday beaten paths.
For the most part I have given up on any classic White Mountain autumn landscapes this year and have taken to the brooks, rivers, and ponds where I am finding some interesting foliage scenes. I have found some good color at Pond of Safety and Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge, though both these areas could be now past peak. Kinsman Notch also had some pockets of interesting color this past weekend.
If you do find an awesome scene in your travels photograph it immediately, because it will be gone tomorrow. You can see some more of this year's foliage here.
Happy image making….
