Triple Falls, White Mountains – Are you looking for easy roadside waterfalls to photograph? Here is three worth exploring. Triple Falls is a series of three smaller waterfalls consisting of Proteus, Erebus and Evans Falls on Townline Brook in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. They are located a short distance upstream from where Pinkham B Road crosses Townline Brook. Park at this crossing and follow the path upstream (left hand side of brook) to the falls.

I would recommend shooting these falls on an overcast or rainy day when the entire scene is in diffused light (soft even light). On sunny days the sun’s rays break through the forest causing all kinds of unwanted hot spots on these falls.

Helpful suggestions on photographing these falls:
1) Solid tripod will allow you to use a slow shutter speed to achieve the silky look in the water.
2) Remote shutter switch will eliminate any chance of camera shake caused from pressing the shutter button.
3) Polarizing filter will remove reflections on the water, glare on surrounding rocks plus saturate colors.
4) Neutral density filters and / or a Lee Big Stopper filter can also be used if you really want to slow the shutter speeds down, but overall a polarizer will work fine.

The last few weeks I have been shooting waterscapes I don’t have on file, mainly the ones that attract tourists to the White Mountains region, so if you know any great waterfalls that are overlooked let me know.
