Autumn Foliage, White Mountains – Here in the New Hampshire White Mountains, the autumn season is a great time to explore the region. And today, I want to share with you some great places in the White Mountains where you can view and photograph the scenic autumn foliage.
Pinkham Notch, Route 16 – Pinkham Notch (above) is crazy during the autumn season, but the foliage is worth it. You do not have to venture far off Route 16 to see the impressive display of autumn colors. Just keep in mind the area is very busy during the autumn season, and you will not be alone, not even early in the morning.
Sandwich Notch, Sandwich – Sandwich Notch is often overlooked because the Sandwich Notch Road is very rough. Most low clearance vehicles can not safely travel this road, but high clearance ones will have little problems. The foliage in Sandwich Notch is excellent, and the subject matter ranges from forest scenes to grand landscapes.
King Ravine, Presidential Range – If you are looking for a little adventure, consider hiking into King Ravine. The foliage in the ravine is incredible and usually ahead of schedule. The view into King Ravine from along Durand Ridge is mesmerizing. This area is very rugged and is not for everyone. One must be prepared when traveling into this area. It is very possible you will have King Ravine to yourself.
Kancamagus Scenic Highway – The scenery along the Kancamagus Highway is excellent during the foliage season. If you only have only one day to photograph the autumn foliage, I would suggest the Kancamagus Scenic Highway. The highway is very busy during the autumn season, but the photo opportunities are worth it.
Chocorua Lake, Tamworth – Chocorua Lake has an awesome view of Mount Chocorua. And being located along Route 16 allows for easy access. The lake attracts many visitors during the autumn season so expect to have some company. The views are worth it!
Hopefully, I have given you some ideas on where to photograph the autumn foliage season this year. And most importantly enjoy the mountain air when in the White Mountains. You can view more autumn images here.
Happy image making..
