October 6, 2014 White Mountains Foliage Season: The landscape of the Great North Woods and White Mountains of New Hampshire has been in grand form the last few weeks. The autumn foliage is unbelievable this year! And the weather has been perfect for photography and leaf peeping.
The foliage appeared to be ahead of schedule this year, and I think it was, but when compared to past years it now seems to be right on schedule. Almost a year ago to the day I made similar observations as the ones in this blog post. Take a look here.
I have been shooting in many locations this foliage season, but Middle Sugarloaf Mountain in Bethlehem, New Hampshire stands out from them all. I would have to say it was peak in this area the day I was on the summit. Middle Sugarloaf has a great view of Mount Hale (above) and the foliage was breathtaking!
Recent windy conditions and rain has sped up leaf drop in some areas. For the most part, it is past peak in the northern half of the state, but great scenes can still be found in the White Mountains. If you plan on visiting the White Mountains this week, you should still be able to find nice foliage scenes to photograph. At this point, I will be traveling to photograph foliage in the southern areas of the White Mountains (Franconia Notch south) and central New Hampshire.
Make sure you get out and enjoy the New England foliage this year! You can view more images from the 2014 White Mountains foliage season here. And take a look at the White Mountains calendar below.
Happy image making..
