Five images from the month of October – Here in the White Mountains October is all about autumn foliage, and nothing else matters during this time of year, except beautiful foliage scenes. I would use spectacular and breathtaking to describe the 2014 foliage season. A few of the sunrises this month were also impressive!
This month I added a new photography resource page to ScenicNH Photography. It is mostly for photographers visiting the White Mountains, but you may find it interesting. There are many websites focused on the White Mountains, and it is tough to know which ones are credible resources. Hopefully, the White Mountains resource page will introduce you to a few beneficial websites you were unaware of. You can look it over here.
This month I spent three days shooting in the Great North Woods of New Hampshire. There are a lot of things to see and do in the Great North Woods and it is easy to get side tracked from your original plans when touring the area. The foliage was excellent at Pontook Reservoir (above) in Dummer, and I had the place to myself.
I spent only one day in October shooting foliage in Franconia Notch State Park, but I got lucky and picked the day it was peak foliage around Cannon Mountain. The above image is from the summit of Bald Mountain which has excellent views of Cannon Mountain and Franconia Notch.
I had planned on two days in Franconia Notch, but it was raining the second day, so I ended up shooting along the tributaries of Lost River in Kinsman Notch. Kinsman Notch is a great place to explore!
Leaf drop was heavy in the southwestern part of New Hampshire on the day I visited, but I was still able to create a few pleasing images. One of the more overlooked attractions in the southwestern corner of the state is Chesterfield Gorge Natural Area (above) in Chesterfield. Some walking is involved, but this roadside attraction is worth exploring. I had the gorge all to myself for at least an hour. View more images of Chesterfield here.
As October comes to an end so does the foliage shooting season. Its time to take a few days off and then get ready for the winter shooting season. With the holidays quickly approaching this is a great time to buy a White Mountains calendar. It is a great stocking stuffer! You can view more images from the month of October here.
Happy image making..
Note: Every month I do a blog post showcasing five images I created during the month. They are intended to help you understand my lifestyle as a photographer.
